You might try removing the keyboard module: If requested firmware is not available, no wireless interface will be created. I read something about that I need a kernel with Toshiba support activated to use the WLAN hotkey which is not working. Ubuntu wireless works on desktops but not laptops, which is about as back-asswards as one can conceive.
